Hungry Mother State Park - 2021 First Day Hike
Address
Are there animals out on cold winter days? Grab a self-guided brochure at the Raider's Run kiosk and read about different signs animals leave behind. Hike Raider's Run and Old Shawnee to see how many signs you can find. Then hike other trails around the park and see if you can find more winter "sightings".
For a historical self-guided geocache hike, travel the lake trail and find all ten of the Civilian Conservation Corps signs beginning with the following coordinates N 36*52.696 W 081* 31.458. Follow the coordinates on the signs to take you to the next historical sighting. Enjoy a roughly 6 mile hike while learning a little about the history of Hungry Mother State Park.
Dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes. Always bring water.
Jan. 1 is a fee-free day.
