Song of the Mountains incorporates both traditional and contemporary performance styles in featuring old-time and bluegrass music from the region's brightest stars. It showcases talented musicians, musical heritage, and culture of the Southern Appalachians.
“The Mountain Minor” is an award-winning motion picture based on the true story of an East Kentucky family of musicians that moves to Ohio for financial reasons during the Great Depression, but never loses their love of traditional mountain music. When casting the film, writer-director Dale Farmer decided to use experienced old-time musicians instead of professional actors, because he wanted the musical performances to look and sound authentic. The result was a film about old-time music that received excellent reviews. American Songwriter Magazine called it a film that has “touched many of those who’ve managed to see it.” The Asheville Citizen-Times described the movie as “a powerful and true-to-life depiction of people doing what they needed to do to make their way in a sometimes-difficult world." Join us on Saturday, May 1st, when several of the film’s stars perform on the stage of The Lincoln Theatre.
Maurice Mattei is a singer/songwriter/photographer/artist whose music ranges from Americana/Alt Country to Rock&Roll, Pop and Blues. He has received glowing reviews both nationally (No Depression Magazine, City Beat, Every Body's News) and internationally (France's Alt Country magazine Le Cri Du Coyote and Belgium's on-line Rootstime Belgium among others.) Maurice has released 27 records and written nearly 300 songs since 1995 and along with his band - the Tempers (Debbie Immesoete on drums and Bryan Berwanger on upright bass) - has performed countless shows throughout that time. Maurice and his band are currently working on new material, tentatively set to be released in 2022. His most recent CD release is called Velvet Lined Room.
