Our Location:
The Plant is located by the "Hot & Cold" water tanks, at 160 Water Mill Road
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Water Treatment Plant is to protect the public health and environment by providing dependable, safe and high quality drinking water to our customers 24 hours a day, every day. We diligently work to meet and exceed all federal and state health and safety standards. We endeavor to maintain a reliable water production facility at an affordable cost to all of our customers.
Our newly certified on site laboratory allows for quick results of bacteriological samples. Tests are performed on the water, not only for health and safety, but also to ensure the most efficient plant operations.
We investigate customer concerns regarding water quality and service, and respond with a quick analysis and explanation of our findings.
We promote on going training and career development for all of our employees in an effort to maintain the best qualified personnel.
The Town of Marion Water Treatment Plant wants to be the recognized industry leader in quality and service, providing more than is expected to our customers.
Recent Accomplishments:
In March 2006, the Water Treatment Plant started renovating its facilities. The plant was upgraded from 2MGD (million gallons per day) to 3MGD and now utilizes state of the art equipment. Radio communications now link information from remote tank and pump sites to the new computer-based system at the treatment plant. The system improvements were completed in 2008.
The design improvements along with new staffing have allowed us to be more productive and more efficient.
Our bacteriology laboratory has developed new Standard Operation Procedures and Quality Assurance & Control Manuals critical to obtaining our State Certification. Our physical quality water laboratory has also developed Standard Operations Procedures as part of an on-going Operations and Maintenance Program. These documents are instrumental in training new employees.
In 2008, Carol Cale acquired a Class III water operator’s license, while Don Henderlite acquired a Class II water operator’s license and Tony Edwards became the Assistant Superintendent.
All of these improvements provided immediate benefit to over 4000 residential and commercial customers in Marion and portions of Smyth County and will accommodate future residential, commercial and industrial growth.
Goals:
The primary goal is to provide a safe and dependable high quality supply of drinking water.
- Keep abreast of newly implemented drinking water regulations and technological developments associated with drinking water supplies and treatment methods.
- Promote the installation of fire meters on commercial properties.
- Continually improve our operations and keep costs at a minimum.
- Continue on going training and career development for all of our employees.
