Mission Statement:
To operate and maintain the 3.4 million gallon per day treatment plant to meet or exceed all state and federal guidelines and to produce the best effluent possible at the least cost to the Tax Paying Public.
Recent Accomplishments:
The former Superintendant was promoted to Chief of Operations over both water and wastewater plants. The current Chief operators roll has been expanded to take over all day to day operations and oversee Reports generated and sent to the EPA and Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Recently the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has taken over Land Application of Bio-Solids from the Virginia Department of Health. This has dictated several changes to the Land application Program, including the requirement of having a Licenced Land Applicator on staff. The Chief Operator and Operator Robert Niehoff attended the Bio-solids application school in Roanoke Va. And are now both Licenced land applicators in the State of Virginia.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has also been implementing changes to the Code of Federal Regulations 40 part 136, which involves changes in Laboratory regulations. The staff at the Treatment Plant have been working to make the necessary changes to stay in compliance with all State and Federal Regulations.
Goals:
To equip all pump and motor controls with more efficient Variable Speed Drives to cut down on electrical costs.
To overhaul the current Ultra-Violet dissenfection system, which has been in continious use for the past fifteen years. The system still keeps the Treatment Plant in compliance with state and federal regulations, but has become very maintainence and spare parts intensive.
To take advantage of all educational and training opportunities available to keep the staff current and abreast of all changes and new technologies in the Wastewater Treatment Field.
