Senior Citizens Advisory Board of Directors Meeting

Minutes

 

Members Present:  Susie Jennings, Susan Sneed, Billy Buchanan, June Jones,

                               Ruth Williams, Mark Ross and Karen Kiser

 

Staff Present:          Mindy Dyer, Amy Baldwin

 

Call to Order:         Mark Ross,Chairman

 

Minutes:                 A motion was made by Susie Jennings and seconded by Susan

                               Sneed to approve the minutes from September 22, 2011. These

                               minutes were written by Mindy Dyer due to Susan’s absence

                               from the September meeting.

 

New Business:

 

The SW Virginia EMS Council has asked to use the entire lower floor of the Senior Citizen’s Building. Billy Buchanan made a motion to decline this request and Susie Jennings seconded the motion. After some discussion the motion passed unanimously.

 

Susie Jennings made a motion that minutes from the Advisory Board meetings be posted on the town website. After a second from Billy Buchanan, the motion carried.

 

Mindy would like to include the Board of Director’s names when she recognizes groups who have donated to and/or helped out at the Center. Board agreed that this would be a good thing to do.

 

Mindy asked if the Board would like to be included in special event activities at the Center. It was agreed that all would like to be included. The next special event will be the Christmas dinner to be held on December 22nd at 11:30 a.m.

 

Several groups have asked to use the building. The Autism Support Group has asked to use the facility once a month and would need a good part of the upper level for their purposes. Susie Jennings made the motion to deny this request and Ruth Williams seconded that motion. After some discussion, the motion carried.  Mt. Rogers would like to use the facility one day in February for a training session. They will be asked to pay $25 for the use of the facility and any further contribution would be greatly appreciated. After a motion from Ruth Williams and a second from June Jones the motion carried. Susan Sneed abstained from voting as she is on the Mt. Rogers Board of Directors.

 

 

 

 

 

Old Business:

 

 

Mindy updated us on building maintenance. New ceiling panels and lights are being replaced. This work is ongoing. There has been some plumbing done in the beauty shop but no other updates have occurred yet.

 

Mindy also announced that she has an application in with Feeding America and is working with other local groups to help with both serving and cooking for a possible soup and sandwich day on Fridays.

 

Other:

 

The contract with District III for 2011-2012 has been approved and signed.

 

Our next meeting will be Monday, Feb.27th at noon.

 

Billy Buchanan made a motion to adjourn and after a second from Karen Kiser, the motion carried.
