Mission Statement:

To provide potable water which consistently meets all quality and pressure standards of the State of Virginia, and to maintain a fire reserve of 3,000,000 gallons.

Recent Accomplishments:

The Department resolved the issues surround detention time in the primary settlement basins. After considering a number of alternatives such as modifying the headwall, building a new settlement basin, and installation of settling tubes, the detention time was reduced through a change in chemical mix. The Department is now using polyaluminum chloride, a reagent which has recently been authorized for use as a flocculent for potable water. This change will enable the Department to reduce its settling times and save the capital cost and increased maintenance associated with mechanical devices which would accelerate settling. This change has the additional benefit of extending filter life.

Goals:

    • To develop a Consumer Confidence Report as required by Virginia Law.

    • To properly regulate the outflow from the detention basin to prevent downstream sewer surcharge.

    • To promote the installation of fire meters on for commercial properties.
