PAYMENTS OF 2002-2003 ACCOUNTS ON HAND: Mr. Burkett moved that the accounts be paid from the General Fund in the amount of $343,669.77. The motion was seconded by Dr. Gates and approved by a vote of 5 AYES and 0 NOES. Messrs Burkett, Heath, Warren, Cregger, and Dr. Gates voted affirmatively.
SET TAX LEVY: Mr. Burkett moved that the following tax levy be set for the 2003-2004 fiscal year. The motion was seconded by Dr. Gates and was approved by Council by a vote of 4 AYES and 1 ABSTENTION (Heath on Downtown Special Tax Rate). Messrs Burkett, Warren, Cregger and Dr. Gates voted affirmatively.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MARION, VIRGINIA; THAT pursuant to the Town Charter, the following taxes be levied for the necessary and proper management and expenses of the Town of Marion, Virginia for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2003:
(1) Upon all real estate (including mobile homes) in the Town of Marion, Virginia, $0.11 per $100.00 of assessed value.
(2) Upon all tangible personal property in the Town of Marion, Virginia, $0.29 per $100.00 of assessed value.
(3) Upon all machinery and tools within the Town of Marion, Virginia, $0.29 per $100.00 of assessed value.
(4) Upon all property within the Special tax District of the Town of Marion, Virginia, $0.11 per $100.00 of assessed value.
JULY 4TH CELEBRATION: Mr. Heath informed Council that music for the celebration will begin at 7:00 p.m. and food will be sold by the Quarterback Club. Earlier in the day, a Daughters of the American Revolution Ceremony will take place at the Courthouse at 10:30 am. Mayor Helms added that eight (8) children have been adopted from foreign countries by local residents. These families will be recognized and presented with a resolution welcoming them to the USA and Town of Marion.
LINCOLN THEATRE: Mr. Heath informed Council members that he received information today that Main Street will be blocked at the Theatre most of the day on Tuesday, July 1, 2003 for the purpose of installation of air conditioners on the roof of the building. It will be necessary to use a large crane to install the units. Council referred the matter to the Town Manager’s discretion to close the street and re-route traffic.
Upon motion, duly seconded and vote of 5 AYES and 0 NOES, the meeting was adjourned.
