ADOPTION OF CONSUMER UTILITY SERVICES TAX: Vice-Mayor Burkett
stated that the
purpose of this Special Called Meeting is to consider the adoption
of the Consumer Utility
Services Tax Ordinance as prepared by Town Attorney Mark Fenyk.
The changes to the current
Ordinance were brought about by the deregulation of electric power
and gas utilities.
Mr. Hendrick stated that the purpose of the Ordinance is to recover
taxes that would be lost by
localities as a result of the deregulation. Mr. Mutter asked
Town Attorney Fenyk to briefly
explain the Ordinance. Mr. Fenyk stated that if the Town
does not adopt the Ordinance, the
Commonwealth of Virginia will receive the monies that would be paid
to the Town, if the
Ordinance is adopted.
Mr. Hendrick moved that the Consumer Utilities Service Tax Ordinance
be adopted as presented
by the Town Attorney. The motion was seconded by Mr. Price and
carried by a vote of 4 AYES
and 0 NOES.
Upon motion, duly seconded and vote of 4 AYES and 0 NOES, the meeting
was adjourned.
