The Annual Hungry Mother Festival is the longest running festival in Virginia to be held in a State Park. The Hungry Mother Festival is sponsored by the Art League of Marion, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of art, theater, and music. Proceeds from the festival fund a variety of cultural activities including art scholarships and a county-wide art show for high school students. Hungry Mother Festival brings together arts and crafts vendors, entertainment, live music, food, and family fun. All set in beautiful Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Virginia.
The 3-day event is always held the third weekend in July, rain or shine.
The 46th Annual Hungry Mother Festival will be held July 19-21, 2019.
Admission & Parking:
A free shuttle provides transportation throughout each day between Downtown Marion and Hungry Mother State Park. The Downtown bus stop will be located at the Farmer’s Market, and the Hungry Mother State Park bus stop will be located at Lot #5 beside Hungry Mother Restaurant. The Art League of Marion was established in June 1974 as an affiliate of the YMCA. The Art League was formed to provide exposure for local talent in all areas of arts and crafts. The founding members, in cooperation with the Virginia Division of State Parks, held the first annual Hungry Mother Arts and Crafts Festival in July 1974. This first successful festival grew in attendance from approximately 12,000 visitors in 1976 to nearly 25,000 during it’s 32nd anniversary in 2005.
