Our Mission Statement:

The Engineering Department is responsible for a wide variety of duties. Since the Department is also meshed with Assistant Town Manager duties as well as Zoning Administration, the duties cover a wide span of responsibilities. Its primary responsibility is development and design of Town Projects, such as utility replacement and installation. The Towns utilities include Water, Sanitary Sewer, and Storm Sewer. When involved in these projects it is necessary to interact with Contractors and Engineering Firms. Surveying practices are also necessary in the design of Engineering projects.

Some other responsibilities include the Street Paving Schedule, Litter Prevention Grant Coordination, Recycling Program Coordination, American with Disabilities Act Coordination, Safety Programs, IT infrastructures (under the consultation of Chris King) as well as the Towns newsletter publication.

The issuance of Zoning Permits and enforcement are the intricate functions of the Zoning Administrator. The Town Code Administration requires a great deal of public contact, in which the department answers phone calls for questions as well as walk in's.

Another very important function of the Engineering Department is inspection, inventory, and coordination of work done on the Bridges located inside of the Town Limits. Most of the work that is required must be coordinated with the Public Works Department.

Computers play a vital role in most of the Departments for the Town of Marion, the Engineering Department performs most of the hardware and software support for all of the Departments. The Engineering Department utilizes computerization in the following ways: digital utility location and inventory, digital street maps and street name inventory, Water Distribution System Hydraulic Model Analysis, Database information for Bridges and Water Meter Replacement.

Overall the Engineering Department plays many roles for the Town of Marion and has a hand in most of the operations that the Town performs.
