Town of Marion Announces COVID-19 Stimulus Grant Program: Up to $2,500 in Grant Funds Available For Eligible Marion Businesses
The Town of Marion, in partnership with Smyth County and The CARES Act, is offering $250,000 in grant funds to assist local small businesses with expenses related to COVID impact. This grant opportunity extends $2,500 to up to 100 eligible Marion businesses to assist with losses and expenses related to COVID. Businesses licensed and located within the Town of Marion are eligible to apply beginning Friday, October 2, 2020. Applications will be accepted as long as funds remain or until November 16, 2020, and will be considered in the order they are received.
Eligible businesses will complete a short application, detailing the impact COVID has had on their operation, planned use of grant funds, total number of employees, and other basic business and contact information, and will certify that they have already covered these expenses or loss with CARES or other grant funding.
The Town of Marion Office of Community and Economic Development will review and score the applications, then make recommendation at the next regularly scheduled Town Council meeting. The Marion Town Council will review all applications, consider staff recommendation, and approve applicants as part of their regular scheduled meetings on the first and third Mondays at 5:30pm. Successful applicants will be notified the following day, with checks available within ten business days following Council approval. Funds are limited to $2,500 per qualifying business, and total funding of $250,000 is available. Applications will be accepted beginning at 9:00am on Friday, October 2, 2020 via email to firstname.lastname@example.org and will be considered in order received until all funds are committed. Any emails received prior to that time will be considered as submitted at 9am.
Qualifying businesses MUST have a current Town of Marion business license, be current on all local and state taxes, employ 25 or fewer, and complete the Marion Small Business Relief Grant Application. Applicants will detail the impact COVID has had on their business and detail how grant funds will be used, along with other information, and will certify that they have not received any other CARES Act funds from any source. Applications will be reviewed in order received, as time stamped by email, and will be scored and ranked as follows: COVID Business Impact 45%, Proposed Use of Funds 40%, Years in Business 10%, Diverse Business Ownership 5%.
