The Town of Marion is delighted to welcome its newest business and “Pop Up” Marion Grant winner, Hester’s Country Store and Fudgery. Located at 112 East Main Street, Hester’s is a sister shop to successful businesses, Cranberry Lane and Southern Churn, located in downtown Bristol, which have been a local favorite for over 20 years.
Hester’s is a local country store that offers home décor, gifts, souvenirs, and local Virginia made products. They also offer wide selection of delicious homemade fudge, hand dipped ice cream, old fashioned candy, and glazed nuts.
“I would like to thank the community for their support during our soft opening. We have been able to hire 10 employees at this location and we plan to make a great impact on the community over the years. We would like to thank our lead staff Kim Crook and Kolleen Hall for managing the store and welcoming so many visitors to our area. Our staff has done an excellent job and we are so proud of them,” said Karen Hester, co-owner.
“For those of you that haven't been to Hester's Country Store yet - what are you waiting on? Come see us you'll be glad you did!” Hester added.
"We are very thrilled to welcome Karen and Monica to the downtown Marion business family," said Olivia McDonald, Executive Director of Marion Downtown. "The expansion to Marion of their current stores in Bristol (Cranberry Lane and Southern Churn) has brought so much energy and excitement to our downtown! The community needed another retail store, and Hester's Country Store and Fudgery is a wonderful asset to Marion." "I love walking or driving down Main Street and seeing folks carrying their branded bags full of goodies," McDonald added.
As one of downtown's newest 'Pop Up' Marion Businesses, the owners attended and participated in Marion's five-week entrepreneur development program and received a $5,000 grant to help offset startup costs for the business. As part of the program, they were required to attend all five classes, present their idea to a panel of judges and develop a business plan for their new idea.
Marion's next round of "Pop Up" Marion will kick off Thursday, October 12th. Anyone interested in learning more about how to start your own business, or just needs to refresh your current business plan can take the class, for free! The five-week program is developed to assist entrepreneurs in learning how to develop a business plan, all while assisting with marketing ideas, going over credit and providing free mentorship to those in need.
