The Town of Marion continues to prove why they were named the SBA's "Small Business Community of the Year," providing another small business loan to help a successful Marion business expand and update.
Charley's of Marion, located in the Smyth Valley Crossing Shopping Center near WalMart, opened in July 2014. Owner Ed Fuqua operates another successful location in Abingdon, and brought his franchise to Marion. Now, with the help of the town's Office of Community and Economic Development and the USDA, Fuqua can update his equipment and furnishings to keep the store current with the brand and modernized for his customers.
"We are excited to see the continued commitment of Charley's here in Marion," said Marion Mayor David Helms. "Ed and his crew provide another dining opportunity for our community, and provide jobs for our citizens. And he's a great guy, too!"
Charley's of Marion is the ninth small business to benefit from Marion's Small Business Loan Pool. The funds are provided by a grant from the USDA, and the initial grant pool of $75,000 first began helping new businesses in Marion in 2011. Since then, Marion's office of Community and Economic Development has received an additional $75,000 allocation. The small business loans are available to new and expanding small businesses within the Town of Marion, based upon employment and investment, and are repaid over sixty months at 2% interest, with a maximum of $15,000 loan per eligible business. "These small business loans are 'last dollar in' monies, helping to bridging the gap between traditional financing and the business needs. It's a great investment in our community, and as these existing loans are repaid, we replenish the pool for future new business growth," said Ken Heath, Director of Marion's Office of Community and Economic Development.
Charley's of Marion is located at 1149 North Main Street, and will be remodeling this summer. For updates on this and other exciting Marion business activity and events, visit www.marionva.org or the MarionVirginia page on Facebook.
