Marion, Virginia

All this warm weather has gotten folks itching for spring and summer activities! The Town of Marion is already making plans for this year's farmers market season, and we're inviting anyone interested in coming and setting up during the 2017 season to join us for lunch!

Join us for a Farmers Market Kick-off Luncheon on Friday, March 31st at 12pm at the Wayne C. Henderson School of Appalachian Arts, located at 203 North Church Street in downtown Marion! Lunch will be provided, but RSVP is required. We ask that folks bring a side dish to share! RVSP by calling (276)783-4190 or emailing today!

All area farmers, backyard growers, crafters, etc. are encouraged to attend. We will have information on the market including applications, upcoming plans for the season and events that are being planned. This will also allow everyone to discuss opportunities to grow the market and their business!

In addition, a representative from Appalachian Sustainable Development will be at the meeting to discuss opportunities for vendors to get involved in Marion's SNAP program at the market. For the third year in a row, Marion is continuing their SNAP/EBT Program at the market - individuals who carry EBT cards are eligible and encouraged to shop at the market for fresh local produce, meats and fruits. Through a grant provided by Wholesome Wave, those individuals qualify for "double dollars" up to $25. So, for every dollar you spend up to $25, the market will match it for free. This is a shop local initiative, encouraging folks to spend their money at the market for fresh locally grown food. It's a great incentive for folks to shop locally and spend their SNAP at Marion's market.
