May 17                   Marion Downtown 12th Annual Meeting and Awards Gala at the General Francis Marion Hotel   Tickets available at the Marion Downtown office.

 

May 19                   “Father-Daughter Dance” at the Grand Ballroom, sponsored by Weddings Plus and WZVA 103FM.  Benefit for Mount Rogers Shelter Home.  Tickets available at Weddings Plus.

 

May 25                   “Seniors Lunchtime on the Lawn”, sponsored by area agencies on aging and Marion Downtown!  Free lunch and music for all area senior citizens on the Courthouse Square.  11am – 1pm.   Admission is free.

 

May 28                   Memorial Day Parade.  Parade down Main Street begins at 10am, followed by hot dog cookout and special program at VFW Post 4667 on Goolsby Street.  Admission is free.

 

June 1,8,15,22,29   “Lunchtime on the Lawn” Summer Concert Series.  Live music and lunch on the Courthouse Square.  Noon – 1pm.  Admission is free.

 

Wednesday, June 27  Marion Night of the Smyth County Celebration.  Part of a weeklong celebration of live local music. Marion’s event is a street dance and concert on Broad Street from 6pm – 10pm!  Admission is free.

 

July 4                      “Marion’s Hometown Independence Day Celebration”.  Live music and fireworks spectacular at MSHS Stadium.  6pm – 10pm.  Admission is free.

 

July 20-22              Hungry Mother Arts & Crafts Festival at Hungry Mother State Park and Marion Downtown Days Summer Festival. 10am – 5pm each day, plus evening activities.   Park downtown and ride the free shuttle to the Park all weekend!  Activities at both venues all weekend.  Arts, crafts, and food booths, live music.  Friday night downtown features 21st annual Chili Championship, Show ‘n’ Shine vehicle show, and street dance with Phantom!   Saturday features sidewalk sales, vendors, and a special evening performance of  “A Musical Tribute to Patsy Cline” at the historic Lincoln Theatre.  Sunday features live Gospel music.  Parking fee at Hungry Mother State Park.  Entry fee for booth vendors, chili teams, Lincoln performance, and vehicle show participants.

 

Friday, August 10  “Motown Downtown!”  Live music from the Motor City on Broad Street.  Food vendors, and more!   From 6 – 11pm  (Admission is free).

 

September 11        “6th Annual Smyth County Patriot’s Day Commemoration”, 12 Noon, Town Hall in historic Downtown Marion.  Live patriotic music, special guest speakers, and a tribute to our troops, veterans, and emergency services personnel.  (Admission is free).

 

October 11 – 14    2nd Annual “Oktoberfestival!”  Weekend long sidewalk sales, farmer’s market, kid’s activities, special menus at downtown restaurants, live music, beergarden, art crawl, and more.  Street dance Friday night. Admission is free for most events.

 

October 27             “Halloween Madness” Trick-or-Treating in historic downtown Marion.  9am – 11am.  All kids 12 and under in costume accompanied by an adult are invited to visit participating businesses for free goodies!

 

November 15 – 18   “Shop at Home Holiday Kickoff Weekend”  Christmas Preview, with special sales, live caroling, hotel packages, “The Lighting of Main”, and a special food event – “Taste of the Mountains”.  Rhonda Vincent live at the Lincoln Theatre for Saturday night’s “Song of the Mountains”, and the annual “Marion Kaleidoscope Christmas Parade” Sunday afternoon at 3pm, along Main Street

 

December 5           Christmas Open House at Smyth-Bland Regional Library.  Special holiday treats and a visit from Santa.  5:30 – 7pm.  Admission is free.

 

Ongoing Events

                                -  “Second Fridays”   Live music and gallery exhibits throughout downtown 2nd Fridays of each month, beginning at the Appalachian Spirit Gallery, 136 West Main Street.

 

                                -  “Song of the Mountains”  Bluegrass LIVE at the Lincoln Theatre the first Saturday of each month.  Shows start at 7pm.
